Okay, because I know you’ve been waiting for this, I’m going to list the best places to get two of Key West’s most famous delicacies – conch fritters and Key Lime pie. What are conch fritters you ask? Conch fritters are fried, ball-shaped, hushpuppyesque breaded appetizers made from conch (pronounced conk). Conch are, for lack of less disgusting description, giant snails and, if you go snorkeling, you’ll find them in the waters surrounding the Keys. They’re also delicious in all forms, even raw. You’ll find conch fritters on nearly every menu, however, my favorite place to buy them is not a restaurant, but the vendor outside the aquarium, perpendicular to the shipwreck museum. With a great selection of sauces, and a great location for between meal snacking, this vendor knows his fritters. Now onto that question of questions, “Where can the best Key Lime Pie be found?” Hands down, no questions asked, The Blond Giraffe. As much as I’d like to give some unique answer (most locals will give you the same response), I can’t because The Blond Giraffe’s Key Lime Pie is so damn good, having the perfect combination of frothy meringue and tart, sweet, cheesecake-like Key Lime pie. There are four Blond Giraffe locations on Key West, I’d recommend the store at 107 Simonton, it’s the main store and its located just north of downtown Duval St. Is your mouth watering yet? Go ahead and treat yourself to some of Key West’s finest!
